because curly hair is sexy hair

by Chelsea Kahle

I have a lion’s mane for hair and it can often be unmanageable. My favorite remedy for dealing with this, is a curling iron. On days when I need to run out of the house trying to look good, I throw a few curls in my hair and it usually looks like I have spent hours working on hot loose curls.

There are two secrets to this.

No.1 – Light hairspray. I spray a small amount on dry hair before I start curling and then a very small amount after my hair is curled. This hairspray is my favorite:

Sebastian Shaper Zero Gravity Hairspray $11-25 (depending on which size you decide to buy)

No.2 – Large barrel curling iron. I refuse to travel without this…seriously. I’m going backpacking in Europe for a couple weeks next month and you BETTER BELIEVE this baby will be in my backpack. I grab large portions of hair and curl it so that it’s not a bunch of tight small curls and the large barrel will keep you from looking like Curly Sue. Be careful not to make the temperature too hot (that depends on the style of hair you have, the thinner the hair, the cooler the setting should be). This is by far the best curling iron I have ever used and refuse to go on vacay without:

Hot Tools Big Bumper 1 1/2″  Spring Gold Barrel Iron $35 (you can find it on eBay and various beauty supplies)

I think a lot of people are intimidated by curling irons (I definitely was but having a sister that’s a hair pro helps) but they are pretty easy to use and take a small amount of time.  Give it a go and happy curling :)
